Trumbull Public Schools To Lift Mask Mandate Feb. 28
Schools Superintendent Martin Semmel made the announcement Wednesday.
TRUMBULL, CT — Trumbull Public Schools is dropping its mask mandate Monday, the same day as the state, Schools Superintendent Martin Semmel announced.
Earlier in the month, Semmel said the district was considering the move, which will give students and staff the option of wearing a mask or not.
"As you likely are aware, the Statewide mask mandate for schools is ending on Monday, February 28," Semmel wrote in the announcement. Therefore, beginning on Monday, February 28, wearing a mask will no longer be a requirement for students, staff, or visitors while in any of the Trumbull Public Schools.

"Although masks will not be required, every individual will have the option to wear a mask while in school at this time. Our teachers and staff will reinforce that mask choice is a personal one and that mean-spirited behavior around those choices is not acceptable in our schools."
Masks will continue to be required on school buses, due to federal guidelines, but will not be required in schools, according to Semmel. Other pandemic protocols, such as extensive building cleaning, also will continue.

He added that teachers will not police the matter during school, meaning parents need to establish a mask routine with their child at home, if they want them to continue wearing masks.
"We are thrilled that we are getting closer to a normal learning environment," Semmel said. "We appreciate the support that families and staff have provided throughout the pandemic. We are looking forward to a very successful conclusion to our 2021-2022 school year as we anticipate that many of our end of year activities can occur as they did before the pandemic."
