2 Die of Apparent Opioid Overdoses Hours Apart in Vernon

Police made the discoveries hours apart Sunday into Monday.

VERNON, CT — Two people have died in Vernon from apparent opioid overdoses over a span of about 13 hours, police said Monday morning.

Police were called to an apartment on East Main Street just after midnight on Monday. A man in his 20s was found unresponsive. Officers and paramedics tried to revive the man, but were unsuccessful, police said.

on Sunday at about 11:30 a.m., officers were called to Old Town Road, where a man in his 40s was found dead inside an apartment, police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating both cases and will determine and exact cause of death for both people, police said. Preliminary findings point toward opioid overdoses, police said.

Police on Monday were not releasing the names of the two people, citing an ongoing investigation.
