2026 Vernon July in the Sky Fireworks Show To Feature A 'Special Effect' For America's 250th

VERNON, CT — With the show annually taking place after July 4, Vernon's July in the Sky celebration is considered a good finale to Independence Day-related activities in north central Connecticut.

This year, there's going to be a finale for the finale.

Vernon Parks and Recreation director Marty Sitler told Patch that "a special effect" will be added to the 2026 display to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the nation.

"Our show is considered one of the most outstanding in the state., so why not add something to that this year," Sitler said. "It's a finale unto itself. It makes it extra special that our contractor company is from America and it manufactures everything in America."

The contractor is Legion Fireworks company, based in Wappingers Falls, NY.

July in the Sky annually has official viewing areas at Henry Park and in Downtown Rockville.

The rockets red glare is shot off from atop Fox Hill at Henry Park.

The show is slated for July 8 and the rain date (only if necessary beyond necessary, Sitler said) is July 9. Fireworks will commence after dusk, when conditions are right, Sitler said.

Here are the usual highlights:

Henry Park

• Gates open at 6 p.m. Gates will close for entrance at 9 p.m. or when park is full, whichever occurs first.
• The car entrance fee is $10 (cash only) Once parked, cars cannot leave the event until the fireworks show is over at approximately 10 p.m.
• The walk-in entrance fee is $2 per person (cash only).
• The event will feature a food court and music.
• A kids play area will be set upo, as will activity booths.
• MOst activities will require a fee.

Downtown Rockville

• The Bryan Flint Push, Pedal, Pull Patriotic Parade traditionally kicks off the festivities at about 6 p.m. Kids of all ages can bring a non-motorized mode of transportation to the parade (wagons, strollers, bikes, trikes, skateboards, roller blades, etc.).
• Live music will be blasting.
• The Fun Zone will featured free games and activities.
• Food vendors will be on hand.
• Novelty toys/items will be for sale.
• Some activities will require a fee.
