6th High Visibility Crosswalk Marker Installed In Vernon

Another state-of-the-art crosswalk is in place on a Vernon road.

VERNON, CT — Vernon now has a half-dozen high visibility crosswalks on busy roads where pedestrians and motor vehicles constantly meet up.

A municipal Department of Public Works crews spent part of Tuesday installing the sixth solar-powered cross walk warning light on West Street. The locations now on two state roads — Route 30 and West Street, took longer because of the need to obtain a permit from the state Department of Transportation.

The lights are activated manually by the person who wants to cross the roadway.

"We urge you to be mindful of people crossing the road at our trail locations and to always drive carefully, attentively and safely," town officials said. "Please slow down and stop when these lights are activated."

Traffic Sign Maintainer John Burney, Foreman Jeff Schambach, Driver Kasean Lett and Laborer Chad Thompson installed the signs where the Rockville branch rail trail crosses West Street Tuesday.
