Accountant Accused of Stealing Money from Vernon Town Agency

The woman is suspected of embezzling nearly $3,000.

A Mansfield woman was arrested Monday on a warrant charging her with embezzling nearly $3,000 from the Town of Vernon Water Pollution Control Department.

Rosanna L. Reynolds, 37, turned herself in at Vernon Police headquarters after learning a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was charged with first-degree larceny due to the theft being from the government and defrauding a public community, according to a statement from Det. James Grady.

The arrest warrant stems from an investigation which began July 6, when Vernon detectives received a complaint that money was missing from the Water Pollution Control Department. Internal auditing controls within the town’s Finance Department discovered the missing money. The matter was immediately referred to Vernon police for criminal investigation.

At the time of the alleged embezzlement, Reynolds was an accountant with the Water Pollution Control Department, where she had been employed since July 2014. The embezzlement allegedly occurred during the months of May and June of 2015, and it involved the theft of at least $2,992 from customer cash payments for their sewer bills.

Vernon’s Finance Department is still doing a complete audit to determine the full amount of the theft.

Reynolds was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 1 at Rockville Superior Court.
