After heavy rains delayed a contractor's schedule, the town's public works crew quickly hand-painted essential markings to keep the first day of school running safely until permanent lines are added next week.

Supermarket In Vernon Sells 6-Figure Winning CT Lottery Ticket (patch.com) โ A Vernon Super Stop & Shop on Windsorville Road has become a lucky spot after selling a $100,000 winning CT Lottery CA$HWORD 2ND EDITION ticket. The prize went to an Ellington resident who recently claimed the six-figure win, giving the Vernon supermarket bragging rights as the local seller.

New cameras in Vernon target drivers that unlawfully pass stopped school buses (fox61.com) โ Vernon is rolling out AI-powered cameras on all 37 school buses to catch drivers who illegally pass when red lights are flashing, with a warning-only period through Sept. 27. Starting Sept. 28, violations caught by the system will carry a $250 fine under a town ordinance, as officials emphasize student safety and better enforcement of Connecticut's school bus laws.

Vernon School Resource Officer Riding In Style For 2026-27 (patch.com) โ Vernon's school resource officer Cara Momnie will be cruising to class in a newly themed Rockville High School "Ram Mobile," a repurposed Ford Explorer Police Interceptor. The black-and-Ram-branded cruiser debuts at Rockville High Thursday morning and will regularly visit other schools, boosting both visibility and school spirit for the SRO program.

Willington woman who crashed into Coventry house sentenced for third OUI conviction (fox61.com) โ A Willington woman has been sentenced in Rockville Superior Court after a jury convicted her of a third OUI, stemming from a 2024 crash into an occupied Coventry home. She received a three-year sentence, suspended after 16 months in prison, plus three years' probation, following an investigation involving Coventry and South Windsor police and state forensic services.
