Rockville High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026 To Be Inducted Sept. 20 (patch.com) — Vernon residents can celebrate five standout Rockville High School alumni entering the Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 20, along with a special service award for former administrator and coach Kimberly Marinan. The afternoon event at the Rockville High School auditorium features a social, induction ceremony, and free admission for children 12 and under, highlighting decades of local athletic achievement.
   

2. With Permits In Place, New African Restaurant Set To Open In Vernon (patch.com) — Vernon diners will soon have a new option at the Route 83–Route 30 fork, where an African restaurant has secured all local permits and is putting on the finishing touches. Located in the plaza with a hair salon and D'Angelo, the long-planned concept is finally becoming a reality after two years of preparation.
   

3. New England Civil War Museum To Host Free Living History Day (patch.com) — Vernon residents can explore Civil War history up close when the New England Civil War Museum at Vernon Town Hall hosts a free Living History Day on Saturday, Oct. 3. Visitors can meet living historians, join small-group guided tours, watch a musket drill, and hear a keynote on Asia Booth Clarke, sister of John Wilkes Booth, all aimed at bringing the era's human stories to life.
   

4. Lines Finally In Place On Road Leading To Schools In Vernon (patch.com) — Freshly painted lines are now in place on Center Road, restoring clear markings for buses and drivers heading to Center Road School and Vernon Center Middle School after weather delays. Vernon's public works crew even hand-painted key markings to keep students safe for the first day of school while contractors waited out the rain.
   

5. License plate reading cameras being placed on some CT school buses. Thousands of violations recorded to date. (courant.com) — Vernon is among several Connecticut towns adding AI-powered cameras to school buses, and its new system recorded nearly 100 violations in just three days. Local and state officials say the technology aims to prevent dangerous passings of stopped buses, while civil liberties advocates raise concerns about how license plate data could be stored, shared, and used for broader surveillance.
