Ann Letendre to be Honored at Annual Dinner for 50 Years of Service

The Vernon Democratic Town Committee will honor Ann Letendre at their annual Marie Herbst Memorial Dinner on Thursday, April 27, 6 -10:00 p.m. at Georgina's Restaurant in Bolton. This marks 50 years of Ann Letendre’s service on Town commissions, including the Hockanum River Linear Park Committee (34 years), Open Space Task Force (24 years), Conservation/Inland Wetlands Commission (18 years), and nearly 10 years on the Vernon Town Council. Letendre also volunteered on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Valley Falls for over 20 years. Statewide, she served on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Association of Conservation and Inland Wetland Commissions, Inc. for 18 years.

The annual Marie Herbst Memorial Dinner remembers Marie Herbst, who was the first woman mayor of Vernon. The evening’s celebrations will include a buffet dinner, music, silent auction, and cash bar. In addition to her volunteer work for the Town, Letendre raised four daughters with her husband in Vernon, as she pursued a career at the United Technologies Research Center for over 30 years. Her community volunteer efforts helped Vernon draft an Open Space Plan in 1998, and reach the plan’s goals of preserving 21% of Vernon lands, including 2,000 acres of protected open space in the Tankerhoosen watershed; institute aquifer protection regulations; preserve Valley Falls Farm and the Strong Farm pastures, and complete 90% of the master plan to create a linear park the length of the Hockanum River. She managed 24 grant projects totaling over $1.1 million dollars in carrying out these efforts. She has been honored by the State of Connecticut Greenways Council and the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association.
