'Breathing Blanket' Gives Away Man Violating Court Order: Cops

A man violating a restraining order was found inside a car under a blanket at a Vernon home, police said.

VERNON, CT — A man was caught hiding under a blanket outside a Vernon home he was not supposed to be near, police said.

At 6:08 p.m. Tuesday, Vernon police were dispatched to a home in Frederick Road for a man they were told was violating a restraining order. A woman at the scene said 31-year-old Dean Ackerman, who lives up the road, had been in her house, police said.

Ackerman has a court-issued restraining order barring him from the property, police said.

Police thought he be might be hiding in a vehicle in the driveway and when they looked inside it, they could see a large blanket with two pair of feet sticking out from one end rising and falling with the breaths of two people, according to a report.

Officers gave the two "ample time" to open the car door and when they refused, they opened it themselves, according to a report.

Ackerman was charged with interfering in addition to violating the restraining order, police said. He posted a $20,000 bond. He appeared in court the next day and had his case continued to Jan. 11, court records show.

The woman with him, under the blanket, 23-year-old Jenna Anderson, of Maple Street, Vernon, was charged with interfering, police said. She is set for a Dec. 19 court appearance after posting a $1,000 bond, police said.
