Budget of $183.5 Million Approved in Manchester

The budget number means taxes will go up.

MANCHESTER, CT — The town's board of directors Tuesday adopted a $183,568,801 budget for the 2016-17 fiscal year, the Hartford Courant reported.

That is an increase of about 2 percent over the current year's budget. It all translates to a tax rate increase of 34.85 mills from 34.68 mills, which means the average homeowner will pay an additional $20 more in taxes next year, but officials note that because of the car tax some residents may in fact pay less in taxes next year.

Democrats and Republicans had a spirited debate over what to cut but in the end the school budget was reduced by $350,000 and the town side of the operations was also cut $371,000.
