📰 News we're reading

• Vernon Woman Arrested After Task Force Narcotics Investigation: Police (patch.com) — Vernon residents are learning more about a recent narcotics investigation that led to the arrest of a 39-year-old local woman after police searched her home and nearby area. Officers with the East Central Narcotics Task Force and Vernon Police say they seized small amounts of suspected crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and the woman now faces multiple drug charges and a risk of injury to a child count ahead of a Rockville court date.

• Some CT towns have a bumper crop of an important nut; others have 'crop failure.' Yes, scientists count them. (courant.com) — Vernon's white oak trees are having a "good" acorn year, even as local red oaks are seeing a crop failure, according to a new statewide survey. Scientists say this bumper season for white oaks in many towns could boost wildlife food supplies and help long-term forest health, though they warn that white oaks still face serious regeneration challenges.
