TOLLAND COUNTY, CT — Recently, Habitat for Humanity North Central Connecticut received more than $300,000 in grants from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Ilsababy Foundation and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Veteran Home Repair Modification program supporting the non-profit organization’s expansion and programs in Tolland County.

"Affordable housing is one of the most critical social issues affecting Americans," said Karraine Moody, the CEO of HFHNCC. "As we continue to expand into Tolland County, this type of funding is critical to our ability to serve the most vulnerable families, like the elderly, disabled and Veteran homeowners, and help Connecticut residents achieve affordable housing."

With the added financial support, Habitat can now implement its A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) program in Tolland County and has set a goal of assisting as many as 30 homeowners by the end of 2023, Moody said.

Through the ABWK program, Habitat partners with local contractors and assists the elderly, disabled and Veterans with critical home repairs ensuring a safe and comfortable living environment.

"Many of our elderly, disabled or Veteran homeowners are unable to maintain their home or live on a fixed budget and cannot afford home repairs," said Tracy Thomas, the family services director for HFHNCC. "Habitat’s A Brush with Kindness program is unique in that we're able to assist this demographic with essential repairs ensuring the home is safe and livable."
