VERNON, CT — A 45-year-old man is being held on $1 million in bonds after being extradited to Connecticut last week on two sexual assault-related warrants out of Vernon.

Qi Cai Chen was arraigned in Rockville Superior Court on June 12 after being brought to Vernon from Albany County in New York State, where he currently lives, according to an arrest report. The investigation is centered around multiple instances of sexual assault with a girl in Vernon, police said.

He was served a pair of warrants a day earlier.

One comes with a $500,000 bond and charges him with first-degree sexual assault, criminal attempt at first-degree sexual assault, third-degree sexual assault (two counts), risk of injury to a child and second-degree strangulation, according to judicial system records.

On a second warrant, Chen has been charged with third-degree sexual assault, criminal attempt at first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child. That, too, comes with a $500,000 bond, judicial system records show.

He failed to post either bond and is expected back before a judge in Rockville on Aug. 2, judicial system records show.
