May 19 Nature and History Walks at Valley Falls Park
Wildflowers and railroads are focus of spring walks
Hope you can join the Friends of Valley Falls on Sunday, May 19, for a morning nature walk and an afternoon history walk at Vernon’s Valley Falls Park.
From 10-11 am, a WILDFLOWER WALK led by Carol Hatch will look at the plethora of early spring wildflowers along the park trails in early spring. Carol knows where to find the hidden beauties along the trails at Valley Falls, including wild orchids and lady slippers.
That afternoon, Don Sierakowski will lead a walk titled, “ROCKS, RAILS and INDUSTRY,” with a focus on how the land typography and railroad industry in the mid-19th century helped to develop the area.
The park is located at 300 Valley Falls Rd., Vernon. Walks are free and leave from the park pavilion; all ages welcome!

The Friends are a non-profit group focused on preserving nature and history. Through grants and volunteer work, in 2023 they opened the new Heritage History Center at Valley Falls Farm.
