Picture Vernon: A 1960s Fashion Statement

VERNON, CT — The latest edition of the picture Vernon series takes us to Rockville High School in the 1960s and a bold fashion statement.

In the Vernon Historical Society archives is a copy of a November 1967 edition of the RHS newspaper, The Bannerette.

Two interesting aspects are the sweatshirt ban and the mention of only boys potentially wearing cleats in the building. Upon seeing the list, an RHS freshman girls lacrosse player looked at her extensive hoodie collection, rolled her eyes and called the rule "stupid."

She also scoffed at the pre-Title IX era and and made her cleat comment more practical to 2020.

"You shouldn't wear cleats in school anyway," she said with a laugh.
