VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us back to 1964 and the case of the bus driver who flipped his lid.

The image comes from the Vernon Police Department Records Division. The bus lost its roof as the driver tried to sneak it through a low overpass that crossed Windsorville Road between today's Stop & Shop and the town's wastewater treatment plant.

The trestle was part of the Ellington branch which ran to Melrose in East Windsor.
