Picture Vernon: The End Of An Overpass

There was once a notoriously low overpass in Vernon.

VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to the dismantling the New Haven Railroad overpass in October, 1964.

The rail line, once part of the Ellington Branch, crossed Windsorville Road where the Waste Treatment plant stands today.

With only 8 feet of clearance, it was prominently marked with warning signs.
