The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to an historic home.

VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to 19 Main Street and an historic home that was a favorite of a famous photographer in the mid 1800s into the 1900s.
It's the Wharburton House in the Talcottville section of Vernon. It was built in 1802 by John Wharburton, an English textile expert who made his way to America and eventually Vernon and introduced mechanized cotton textile production to Connecticut.
According to Wikipedia, Warburton purchased land along the Tankerhoosen River and built a dam and cotton mill, the first financially successful cotton mill in the state.
