Picture Vernon: Here Come The Refrigerators

VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to Downtown Rockville and refrigerators on parade.

In the undated photo furnished by the Vernon Historical Society, the "modern" appliances are on display — along with a few proclamations about their worth. See it all below:

According to Wikipedia, the introduction of freon in the 1920s expanded the refrigerator market during the 1930s. In 1913, home refrigerators were invented and, a decade later, Frigidaire introduced the first self-contained unit. Home freezers as separate compartments (larger than necessary just for ice cubes) were introduced in 1940. Frozen foods, previously a luxury item, became commonplace.
