Picture Vernon: A Hidden War Memorial

VERNON, CT — The latest installation of the Picture Vernon takes us to a somewhat hidden war memorial. It's a perfect spot to kick off the Memorial Day weekend.

It's the Vernon West Side World War II Monument, located at the tip of the triangle that separates Union Street and Windsor Avenue — the divider at the Tire Town repair shop.

There, amid a patch of grass, a flag and some stone work, sits the monument.

Its inscription reads:

Of the Men of the

West Side Who Served

In World War II
