Picture Vernon: A History Lesson Downtown

VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to Downtown Rockville and a spot in Central Park near town hall.

There, we find the town's blue historic sign. It's full of historic facts.

The sign tells us that, from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, the cloth from the local textile mills gained fame both domestically and abroad.

The material was used, the sign tells us, for the suits for two presidents at their inaugurations — William McKinley in 1897 and Theodore Roosevelt in 1905.
