The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series.

VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon Series takes us back to the "stagecoach days," as historical society officials like to term it.
That was before trains and automobiles and the way around town was by horse.
A frequent stop in those days for both locals and hungry travelers was the "Waffle Tavern" at the corner of Grove Street and Hartford Turnpike.

The tavern was known for "delicious waffles" and when a stagecoach approached the intersection, the driver sounded his horn as a signal for the cook to get the griddle going.
