VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us back almost a half century.

This image from the Vernon Police Department Records Division shows that cops really did wear fedoras in the old days.

The image is from September, 1963 and depicts Maj. Sam Rome of the Connecticut State Police (on the left) and Vernon Police Chief Ed Dwyer at a crime scene on Dockerel Road, where the body of a homicide victim was found.
