VERNON, CT — The latest installment the Picture Vernon Series takes us to the local historical society archives and a map of the town from the 19th century.

Welcome to Vernon in 1877.

A focal point of the map was certainly the mills with the Rockville and Talcottville sections of town being leaders in the textile industry.

Vernon Historical Society President Jean Luddy likes to point out that the right-hand side of the map shows no continuous road access from the spot in Rockville where the Daniels Mill and Amerbelle complexes were to the northeast part of town. Residents and visitors had to go around the long way, she joked.
