Picture Vernon — Traveling In Style, Circa 1898
The latest installment of the picture Vernon series.

VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us back to what was once the most popular way to travel around town — the trolley system.
The photo, courtesy of the Vernon Historical Society, dates back to 1898 on a snowy day in the Rockville section of Vernon.
Historical records show that the Hartford Manchester & Rockville Tramway Company was a streetcar operator incorporated in 1894. In 1906, the company was sold to Consolidated Railway Co., which was renamed The Connecticut Company a year later.
