VERNON, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Vernon series takes us to a cherished pop culture artifact owned by the Vernon Historical Society — a promotional ruler from that iconic culinary giant, Shakey's Pizza.

Shakey's was located along Route 83 at Vernon Circle — when it was actually a circle and not the monstrous intersection it is today.

Shakey's was based in Sacramento, CA, and it was actually able to infiltrate the picky Northeast market. The height of its popularity spanned the 1970s into the 1980s.

Part of that popularity was the radio ads for New England Whalers games during the days of the World Hockey Association.
