Rockville High School Girls Basketball Team Advances In State Tournament For 1st Time In 25 years

The Rockville girls basketball team is ready for the second round of the state Class 4 tourney, scheduled for Tuesday.

VERNON, CT — The Rockville High School girls basketball team advanced to the second round of the state tournament for the first time in a quarter-century after a decisive first-round victory Saturday.

The No. 29-seeded Rams upset No. 4-seeded Prince Technical High School, 64-21, in a CIAC Girls Basketball State Tournament matchup.

The Rams are in Class 4.

It was a team effort, head coach Jeremiah Brown said.

Sophomores Alani Ranson, Lilyanna Brown and Juju Christian and senior Jyotsna Mundakel each scored in double figures to lead Rockville. Christian hit five 3-pointers, while Brown and Molly Wilson combined for 13 assists. Mundakel also grabbed eight rebounds.

The win sends Rockville to the second round of the state tournament for the first time since 2001, according to Brown and athletic director Jeffrey Farrell.

Rockville is slated to face Bunnell High School in the second round at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Stratford.
