Rockville High School Senior Diary: How to Survive Valentine's Day
It doesn't matter if you're single on Valentine's Day. You can still have fun with some of these fun activities

Valentine's Day is either a love-filled and romantic day that you spend with the person you love, or the worst day of your life.
For many people, Valentine's Day is just another reminder of how you’re still single and really have no good reason to be so.
It is more frustrating for women because, let’s be honest, we want to be celebrated. We love romance and cute gestures, but we don’t always have someone to do that for us. So if you don’t have a date this Valentine's Day, here are some ideas to get you through the day.

Hosting an Anti-Valentine's Day party is the perfect way to spend your day if you don’t want anything to do with romance and really want to stick it to this nasty holiday that, in your opinion, shouldn’t even be a holiday.
Get some friends and just hate on the day together. Make a playlist of songs including Love Bites by Def Leppard, or Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood. Jam out to some girl power tunes as well, or any kind of anti-love song music with your friends.

Make some tasty treats, anything but a salad because, who are you trying to impress anyway. Dig into some cheesey nachos or eat that whole pizza by yourself. We won’t judge.
Pop in some movies about couples breaking up, or if you don’t want to be reminded that you’re single too, watch some horror movies. That will really take your mind off of romance.
If you don’t want to stay home, get some friends and have a night out. Get a yummy dinner (the worse for you the better). Take your friends and do activities like bowling, getting your nails done, a massage, and since Valentine's Day is on a Tuesday this year, go to a five-dollar Tuesday movie. Dating is so expensive, so make it your goal to go on the cheapest date possible.
Sometimes it’s better to spend the day alone, and that’s not a bad thing. It’s good to be comfortable being single. So if you want to spend the day and do something for yourself, you can embrace being single with a movie, this is the perfect year for that. And the best part is, you don’t have to argue about what movie to see! Or you can buy yourself a new outfit and take yourself on your dream date. It will be cheap and the best company you’ve ever had.
A group of friends is always the best way to make even the worst days better, so if you still want to celebrate Valentine's Day, even if it’s just for the chocolate, get some friends together and have a secret valentine part, derived from a secret santa party.
Draw names from a hat and meet up on the special day. You can set a budget or go crazy. Get them the generic gifts i.e. Chocolates, flowers, a teddy bear, etc. or you can you spice it up with a personal gift that they will also love. Get dressed up and go on a big group date, just like the Bachelor, expect there is no guy to fight over which would make it the best date in my opinion.
The best way to spread the holiday cheer is to give back to your community. This is also something that you can do with a valentine if you're feeling generous, but since this is about all the single ladies out there, spending time helping out those in need is a better feeling than getting some flowers that will eventually die anyway. Go to a soup kitchen, or read to some elderly people. They will appreciate it, and you will feel good about yourself. Make some cute Valentine's Day treats for your neighbors, or go visit your family. No one will ever love you more than your family does and this is a day about love anyway.
