Seduction Distraction Used In Vernon Burglary: Warrant

Two people have been charged in a Vernon burglary that featured sex as a distraction, a warrant states.

VERNON, CT — A man and a woman are accused of setting up a seduction scenario to serve as a distraction in a Vernon burglary and identity theft caper, a warrant states.

Two people have been charged in the case.

Wesley Fortin, 53, of Vernon has been charged with:

  • First-degree burglary
  • Third-degree identity theft
  • The fraudulent use of an auto teller
  • Sixth-degree larceny
  • Illegally taking a payment card

Each is accompanied by a respective conspiracy charge, records show. He was held on a $10,000 bond after a Wednesday arrest and was to appear in court Thursday, according to an arrest report.

Jessica Newbury, 29, was in court Wednesday and is due back Aug. 28, records show. She has been charged with conspiracies related to most of Fortin's charges, particularly first-degree burglary, along with sixth-degree larceny, illegally taking a payment card and third-degree identity theft.

She also has a $10,000 bond in the case.

According to a warrant, Newbury went to 105 Brooklyn St. in the Rockville section of Vernon at 8 p.m. on June 24, took a resident upstairs and had an sexual encounter.

At 2 a.m., an air conditioning unit was pushed in, and Fortin appeared and began screaming about the encounter, according to a warrant. At some point, as he was yelling, Fortin was able to grab a wallet and remove a debit card, according to a warrant.

The resident received a notice about a $300 withdrawal a short time later, according to a warrant.

Fortin and Nebury apparently spent most of it on crack cocaine and cigarettes, according to a warrant.

Fortin apparrently knew the PIN number assigned to the card, according to warrant. A phone was also missing, according to case records.
