Spring Happenings at the Tolland County Agricultural Center

Tolland County Agricultural Center off to a good start for 2023!

On the last Saturday in April, the first annual Tack and Tag Sale was held at TAC. TAC (rhymes with tack) is the Tolland County Agriculture Center, located at 24 Hyde Avenue, Vernon. Despite, the rainy day, people came out and enjoyed the unique combination of tag sale and tack sale (saddles, bridles, brushes, clothing and other horse-related items).

Started by a group of farmers in 1955 who took out mortgages on their farms to finance the land and first building, TAC has a long history of providing education for children and adults and support for local farming interests in Tolland, Vernon, Ellington, Stafford, and other nearby towns. Over the years, TAC (as a non-profit organization) has hosted many 4-H events, horseshows, Master Gardener trainings, CT Envirothon trainings and competitions, sheep and wool festivals (including sheep herding trials), antique machinery shows; and with the recent acquisition of the adjacent Gunther Farm, provides space for beginning farmers.

The Scantic Valley Antique Engine Club also held its 46th Annual Antique Machinery Show and Swap Meet at TAC on Saturday, May 13, 2023 to a wonderful, sunny day that allowed for a garden tractor pull and demonstrations of equipment from years gone by.
