St. John’s Episcopal Church Hosts Solar Workshop

Connecticut residents invited to St. John's on Sunday, May 21st

The Environmental Ministry at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 523 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon will host a Solar Workshop on Sunday, May 21st from noon-1:30 pm.

“We are excited to invite the greater Tolland County community to an educational solar workshop as part of our biannual Clean and Green Sunday”, said Letty Naigles of St. John’s Environmental Ministry. “Putting solar on your home is an easy way to make a big environmental impact in caring for God’s Creation. In cases like mine, the solar pays for itself in the financial savings. The Solarize with Faith program allows participants to explore solar with a well-vetted installer.”

The Environmental Ministry at St. John’s Episcopal has joined with four other houses of worship in Connecticut to do community education and outreach around residential solar as part of the Solarize with Faith program. Solarize with Faith is part of the larger Solarize Connecticut program, which has helped the state grow from fewer than 900 residential solar installations in 2012 to over 22,000 solar installations today.

What started out as a municipal-based program allowing residents to purchase solar at group rates in their participating town or city has expanded to include communities of faith. The guiding philosophy behind Solarize with Faith is “Stewardship in our hearts. Solar on our roofs.” All houses of worship in Connecticut are invited to be part of the Solarize with Faith effort.

Connecticut homeowners who want to get started finding out if their home is good for solar can go directly to solarizect.com/faith.

The solar workshop is open to the community; people who attend the workshop can take advantage of the discounted price offered through the Solarize with Faith program to help residents go solar. Attendees will learn about the program, be introduced to the chosen installer, hear about financing options, and have a chance to learn if their house is good for solar. Admission is free.
