Stove Fire Causes Stir At Elderly Mill Housing Complex In Vernon
Firefighters made quick work of a stove fire at an elderly housing building in Vernon Monday morning.

VERNON, CT — A stove fire Monday morning at a Vernon elderly housing complex caused a bit of a scare.
The call at the Florence Mills complex came in at 8:09 a.m. The old mill-turned elderly housing is situated at 121 West Main St.
Officials said the fire broke out on a stove inside a second-floor unit and began smoking intensely. A fire crew quickly put it out with an extinguisher.

Residents were evacuated from the second and third floors to common areas because of smoke and three were taken to an area hospital because of breathing difficulties Because of where the fire was located, several crews from Vernon and Tolland responded as a precaution.
All residents were allowed back into their respective apartments, officials said.

West Main Street from Spring Street to Vernon Avenue was closed until about 9 a.m.
