Vernon Serves More Than 7,000 Free Meals In July

Vernon served 7,211 free meals in July, youth services department officials said this week.

VERNON, CT — Vernon served 7,211 free meals in July, youth services department officials said this week.

The program will continue through Aug. 28. That day, breakfast and lunch will be served for two days.

The town's Youth Services Department, has been providing free summer meals to families as a continuation of the school system program since the outset of the coronavirus pandemic.

About 50,000 meals were served from March through June.

Meals are served for all children 18 and younger Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m. at Vernon Center Middle School.
