VERNON, CT — Vernon Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary on Monday referred to vaping as a "health and safety risk to our students and families," and is urging staff, faculty, students and residents to attend an upcoming symposium on the habit.

Here is his recent letter to the school system:

Dear Vernon Faculty & Staff,
Welcome back from a well-deserved break. I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends. I do not usually urge staff to attend events or presentations beyond the school day however, the issue of Vaping has become a health and safety risk to our students and families. After spending a few days off with family and friends, I am grounded in the importance of having a safe and healthy society. This Vaping issue is becoming a community health risk to our children and their families. There is a presentation on Vaping on Thursday, December 5th at 6:30PM at Vernon Center Middle School and I encourage you to attend. Attached is more information. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Joseph P. Macary, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Town of Vernon

The vaping symposium is open to the public.
