Vernon Winterfest Celebration On Tap For Friday

Vernon's annual Winterfest event is scheduled for Friday.

VERNON, CT — The town of Vernon's annual Winterfest event is scheduled for Friday.

The event starts at 6 and will include the traditional fire truck parade, caroling and the official lighting of the town tree, the wreath at town hall and the star on the Fox Hill tower .

The Santa House will also officially open for the season that night.

During the event, the center of Rockville will be closed to traffic. The road closure will stretch from West Main Street at Union Street to East Main Street at Court Street. All traffic will be detoured around the center using Vernon Avenue, Brooklyn Street and Court Street.

The closure will be in effect until approximately 9 p.m. In addition, during the brief parade, traffic on Grove Street will be detoured onto Laurel Street to Cedar Street to Brooklyn Street. The road will be re-opened immediately following the event.
