Vernon Woman 2nd Attempt at The Spartan Summer Death Race

Chia-Wen (Abbie) Lambert, a Vernon resident who is also a dedicated suburban educator in Springfield Massachusetts, chose to participate in the 2023 Spartan Summer Death Race with her husband, Nathan Lambert. The Spartan Death Race, one of the toughest races in the world, will be held in Pittsfield Vermont this summer. As a teacher in Springfield Public Schools, Mrs. Lambert strives to show her students how to overcome obstacles in life by choosing to do something very difficult.

Mrs. Lambert and her husband started their spartan journey in 2019 with Spartan obstacle races, then in 2020 the pandemic started. Everything stopped, all races were cancelled. Many had to stay home as there were not too many things going on in the world except for these other Spartan events called Hurricane Heats. These events were hosted by Spartan during COVID. They found a safe way for all the participants to be safe and still compete.

“We were required to maintain social distancing and wore masks as well as using 6’ poles to keep us separated (talk about awkward).” “With the physical challenges I faced, it has helped me to deal with the life’s daily stress,”

Mrs. Lambert said. It has been three years since the couple started to do races and start a new fitness journey. In 2021, they completed over 60 races earning a 10X Trifecta. Through these events they become physically and mentally stronger every day and they want to share the secret of being happy and healthy with others. Mrs. Lambert trains her students with push-ups, burpees, jumping jacks every day in school. Sometimes she even runs with them to make sure they form a healthy workout habit.

This year will be the couples 2nd attempt at the Spartan Summer Death Race, one of the hardest races on the on the planet. It is a 3 day journey of mental, physical, and psychological challenges that will test all the limits of a human being. It takes a combination of athleticism, mental fortitude, stubbornness, and a dash of stupidity to show up for the event and complete the tasks.
