Animal advocates have been pleading with Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. to install air conditioning in the kennels.
As the Record-Journal reports, the town council is attempting to direct money from a trust fund that was donated to the town by Susan Juul and specifically designated for the Wallingford animal shelter.

Councilor Christina Tatta, a Republican, told Patch the issue of funding for air conditioning at the shelter has been on several meeting agendas.
"I wanted to bring some finality to the issue and just have a final result and just get it done," said Tatta, who proposed the resolution with Democratic councilor Vincent Testa. "It seemed clear that our constituents wanted this. There’s money there with the gift money to pay for this."

Tatta said there is some debate about if the resolution authorizes the town council to begin looking for someone to install A/C at the shelter, or if Mayor Dickinson has the final say on the process. Patch has reached out to the town's Corporation Counsel, Janis Small, for clarification.
Parris "Mitch" Gibbs was hired as the new director of the shelter in July.
