“UConn and Merrimack are not only getting fine students who excel in their sport of choice, but they are also getting young men who respect the classroom, want to learn, and have heart. They will be great additions to their respective campuses,” said Notre Dame President Mr. Robert F. Curis.

Boynton, who helped guide Notre Dame to the 2014 CIAC Division 2 state title and 2015 Southern Connecticut Conference championship, chose UConn for its academics and rising golf program. He said, “I chose the University of Connecticut over any other school because of the excellent balance between outstanding academics, competitive athletics, and the family atmosphere that is present in the golf program at UConn under head coach Dave Pezzino.”

May, an all-stater in 2014 and 2015, was a key member of the successful 2014-15 Notre Dame swim team that finished second in the Class M Championship Meet and later qualified and swam in the US Olympic Trials in the summer of 2016 in advance of the 2016 Brazil Olympics. He is anxious to get back in the pool after being injured for the last 10 months. May said, “I chose UConn because it is a very good school academically and once I spent time with the team, I felt right at home. The balance between academics and athletics there will keep me motivated and determined as a student.”

Shanley, who has 33 goals and 41 assists the last two years for head coach AJ Alessi and the Notre Dame lacrosse team, felt comfortable with Merrimack as the recruiting process unfolded. He said, “I chose Merrimack because I feel like it is a perfect fit for me. Coach Morgan was great throughout the entire recruiting process and was very straightforward. The school size and the majors offered fit what I am looking for in a school and the lacrosse is very competitive.”
