Suspected Car Burglar Caught After Making Questionable Purchases at 3 a.m.: Wallingford Police

Police used surveillance video of the suspect making purchases with a stolen credit card and DNA evidence to identify the suspect.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A West Haven man is accused of breaking into several vehicles in Wallingford and stealing a man’s wallet over the summer. The victim contacted police after he was notified by his bank of a questionable transaction that was made at 3:12 a.m. on June 24, according to Lt. Cheryl Bradley.

The burglary occurred on the 300 block of Main Street in Wallingford. Bradley said that after the victim received the notification, via text, he went out to check his vehicle for his wallet and discovered that someone had gone through and stolen items, including his wallet.

It was further determined that two other vehicles parked in the driveway of the residence were also gone through, but, nothing was stolen, according to Bradley.

An investigation determined that the victim’s credit card was used at a Walgreen’s in New Haven and another attempt was made at a convenience store in New Haven.

Bradley said surveillance of the transaction in conjunction with a fingerprint that was lifted from the victim’s vehicle identified the suspect as Jarrod Buice, 38, of the 200 block of Elm Street in West Haven.

Wallingford Police arrested Buice on a warrant on Thursday, Nov. 17. He was charged with three counts of third-degree burglary, three counts of theft of a credit card, two counts of sixth-degree larceny and one count each of third-degree identity theft, receiving goods from the illegal use of a credit card, criminal attempt at illegal use of a credit card and illegal use of a credit card.

Buice was held on a court-set $5,000 bond. He was arraigned after his arrest.
