Wallingford Officials Plan to Get First-Hand Account of Oakdale Noise

The Oakdale's owner seeks a limited exemption to the town's noise ordinance while a hearing on the appeal of cease-and desist order looms.

Members of the Wallingford ordinance committee plan to visit the Oakdale Theatre with a sound expert hired by the town to get a first-hand experience of the noise emanating from the building, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports Live Nation Worldwide Inc., which owns the Oakdale, is requesting a limited exemption to the town’s noise ordinance and a 10-decibel increase in the current guidelines. The committee discussed the request at last week’s meeting but no action was taken, according to the Record-Journal.

The town issued a cease-and-desist order against Live Nation last summer, accusing the Oakdale of violating its permit by holding concerts in “The Dome” and by exceeding noise levels and using an unapproved parking area.

Since the letter was issued, fans of the Oakdale have rallied and shown their support to the music venue and an online petition and a Facebook page, both called Save the Oakdale, were launched.

Live Nation has appealed the letter, concerts have continued to be held at the Oakdale and the sides appear to be working toward a compromise.
