WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford woman who thought she was being followed ended up getting arrested on DUI charges after she drove to the police station and had her 4-year-old child in the car with her, according to police.

It turns out the driver who was following Marissa Lemme told police he did it because she was driving erratically and he was concerned.

Lemme, 34, called the Wallingford Police Department at about 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 to report that she was being followed for 25 minutes by a man in a tan pickup truck, according to Lt. Cheryl Bradley.

Lemme was calling from a location within several miles of the Wallingford Police Department. She was advised to continue traveling to the police department, Bradley said.

As Lemme was pulling into the Wallingford Police Department, officers stopped the tan pickup and spoke with the operator. The operator told police that he was following Lemme because she was driving erratically and he was concerned.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports the man began following her in Hamden because she was driving erratically, including swerving over the double-yellow line, and he took video of it.

Officers responded to the police department and talked with Lemme, who had her 4-year-old child in the vehicle with her.

Bradley said that as a result of their interaction with Lemme and her subsequent poor performance on the field sobriety tests, the officers developed probable cause to believe that she was operating under the influence.

The Record-Journal reports police also found a container in the driver-side cup holder that contained seltzer mixed with mouthwash, which has an alcohol content of 21.6 percent.

Lemme, of Cooke Road, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, drinking while driving and risk of injury to a minor.

She was released after posting a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 11.

Bradley said the Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
