2. Car Crashes Into Home In Waterford (patch.com) — Waterford residents may have noticed emergency crews Tuesday night after an SUV crashed into a local home, prompting multiple 911 calls. Firefighters helped the driver safely exit through the passenger side, and Waterford Ambulance evaluated the driver, while the homeowner, who was inside at the time, escaped injury.
   

3. Animal Control Officer Shares Emotional Announcement In Waterford-East Lyme (patch.com) — Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control Officer Robert Yuchniuk is stepping down Sept. 1 after decades in public safety and 16 years in animal control, as he continues treatment for advanced cancer. He reflects on expanding the program to two full-time officers, high live-release rates, and strong community support, while Assistant Officer Allison Ryan will assume his role and the town plans to hire another staff member.
   

4. Waterford Selectmen Approve $200K Emergency Reserve For Water System (patch.com) — Waterford's Board of Selectmen has created a $200,000 emergency capital reserve for the town's water distribution system for fiscal 2027, using money from the General Fund balance. At the same Aug. 18 meeting, members also handled surplus equipment, a parks contract, and tax refunds during a brief session at Town Hall.
   

5. Man injured in I-95 construction accident in East Lyme has died (theday.com) — A 54-year-old Waterford man, Darnell Parker, has died after being seriously injured in an Aug. 20 construction accident on the I-95 improvement project near Exit 74 in East Lyme. The union laborer was trapped between concrete barriers and later died after transfer to Yale New Haven Hospital, while a federal workplace-safety investigation remains ongoing.
