Garrison Keillor Cancels CT Show Amid Misconduct Allegations

Garrison Keillor's performance in Torrington this week has been canceled amid the host's firing and allegations of workplace misconduct.

TORRINGTON, CT - Following allegations of workplace misconduct, popular Minnesota radio host Garrison Keillor has cancelled his performance scheduled for Thursday night at the Warner Theatre in Torrington, according to media reports. Theatre officials said they learned of the cancellation around noon on Thursday.

Keilor was fired from Minnesota Public Radio on Wednesday after an allegation of "inappropriate behavior" was lodged against him by someone he worked with, the station announced.

"Last month, MPR was notified of the allegations which relate to Mr. Keillor's conduct while he was responsible for the production of A Prairie Home Companion," the station said in a statement. "Based on what we currently know, there are no similar allegations involving other staff. The attorney leading the independent investigation has been conducting interviews and reviewing documents, and the investigation is still ongoing."

Keilor was scheduled to join together with special guests Robin and Linda Williams, two old friends from the earliest days of Keilor's popular "A Prairie Home Companion" for an evening of harmony and humor in Torrington, according to a release.

Though his performance scheduled for Wednesday in Pittsfield, Mass., had been cancelled, Warner officials originally said that night they still planned to go ahead with Thursday's show, Eyewitness News 3 reported.

Theatre officials said they will be contacting ticket holders to inform them the show is canceled, according to NBC Connecticut. They will also provide refunds.

While details of the incident that resulted in his firing have not been made public, Keilor said in an email to The Minneapolis Star Tribune he was fired for putting his hand "on a woman's bare back."
