• Patients at Smilow Cancer Hospital in Waterford got a boost this week (theday.com) — Cancer patients at Smilow Cancer Center on Waterford Parkway South just received more than 500 donated race medals, trophies, and handwritten encouragement letters to lift their spirits during treatment. East Lyme 12-year-old and pageant titleholder Christina Amick led the drive with help from her mother and local running and medical outreach groups, hoping to make it an annual tradition.
   

• Sanatorium: Inside the Architectural Cure for Tuberculosis (untappedcities.com) — A free virtual talk will spotlight historic tuberculosis sanatoriums across the country, including Seaside Sanatorium in Waterford once a pioneering children's treatment hospital. Photographer John Lazzaro will share images, history, and behind-the-scenes stories from his new book, and attendees can register online to receive a Zoom link.
