Are you pets up-to-date with their Rabies vaccinations?

For wildlife in Waterford, it’s been a wild week. Not even 24 hours after Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control Officer Robert Yuchniuk warned residents of coyote sightings and missing pets, he is alerting them to the case of a rabid skunk.
Post from Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control:
Rabies Advisory: A skunk has tested POSITIVE for rabies on Spithead Road in Waterford. Please ensure all your pets are current on their rabies vaccinations. Immediately report any warm blooded animal that is showing signs of aggression to humans or who appears ’drunk.’

Rabies is a virus that affects the brain like alcohol. Symptoms will appear as if the animal is drunk (staggering, stumbling, falling over, collapsing) or has ’beer muscles’ (aggression to humans, trying to bite instead of spray). Any suspected rabid animal should be reported immediately to the Police or ACO.
