Connors said she considered several schools. But once she set foot on the campus of Florida Southern, she knew it was the right fit.
“This is my dream school,” she said. “I thought at first I wanted to go to a big school. But once I spent some time at the smaller school, I realized it was the best fit for me. It is just nice to have a little community.”
Connors will study either physical education or health education at Southern Flordia.
Martucci
If there is one thing Martucci loves, it is basketball.
“Oh my God I love basketball, it is my passion,” she said. “I could play it all day every day.”
When she was younger, she tried several sports. But basketball was the one at which she was the most gifted, and for somebody who expects a lot from herself, it was the best fit.
“I am a perfectionist,” she said. “And basketball was the sport I had the most skill in.”
Martucci will red-shirt her first year at Quinnipiac, and then play guard on the basketball team. She will major in physical therapy.
“I just want to do anything where I can be near sports,” she said. “It is just what I love to do.”
Wiggins
Wiggins is the first Waterford student to get a scholarship for lacrosse. That is an honor, she said.
“I feel good because it is, I think, a real accomplishment,” she said. “I’m happy for the program.”
Much like Martucci, Wiggins lives to play lacrosse. It is her “passion,” she said.
“It’s my getaway from everything,” she said. “I could play lacrosse 20 hours a day, and just eat and sleep.”
Wiggins picked Bridgeport because “I love (the teammates) and I love the coach.” Both have welcomed her immediately, she said.
She is going to school to become a dental hygienist.
