Cranston, RI - Coach William Speller, , said he never would have thought Waterford would be there, and felt “unbelievable.”

Well, now his team is New England champion.

“It’s amazing,” Speller told Cranstonbound.com Friday night. “This is unbelievable. To get the opportunity to be New England champions. Who would have ever thought that? Amazing.”

Waterford South 9-10-year-old all-star team came back from a five-run deficit Friday night against Rhode Island to win the New England championship, according to the website. Today, they will play New York for the east regional championship.

After 2 ½ innings, Waterford trailed, 6-1, according to the site. But the team's hitting stormed backed and the pitching steadied, and Waterford won, 12-6, according to the site.

The game today is at 1 p.m. Despite being the third game the teams played in a row, Speller says he’s ready.

“We’re ready,” Speller told the website. “We’re ready to go play another game.”
