2 Dogs, 2 People Rescued From West Hartford Elevator: Firefighters

According to the firefighters' union, which posted information on the incident, both canines were 'good boys.'

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Being stuck in an elevator is scary enough, but imagine if you're a dog or you're with a dog.

That's what happened Tuesday night in West Hartford when the West Hartford Fire Department was called to a School Street apartment building to rescue two people and two dogs at about 9 p.m.

West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241 posted an image of the rescue, along with information about what happened.

The union said such elevator rescues are, actually, one of many contingencies firefighters train for.

It wasn't disclosed where or at what time the elevator became stuck, but firefighters said it was "disabled due to an entangled leash."

"With the doors derailed and inoperable, our team worked through the 11-step elevator rescue process and ultimately accessed the top hatch and executed a rescue via ladder to bring everyone to safety," wrote firefighters on social media.

"There were no injuries to any dogs or humans."

Union officials said incidents like this actually require "extensive training in elevator operations, technical rescue, patient management, and hazard control—skills our members train for year-round."

As for the two dogs, named Winston and Teddy?

Firefighters said they were "good boys" during the rescue.
