Catholic School Athletic Field Project Pushed Back A Month

Project would replaces school's grass fields with artificial turf.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Plans to approve the transformation of Northwest Catholic's athletics fields from natural grass to artificial turf were recently delayed.

Earlier this month, the West Hartford Plan and Zoning Commission unanimously voted to continue a hearing and possible action on the matter until its Nov. 2 meeting at 7 p.m. in West Hartford Town Hall.

The school, located at 29 Wampanoag Drive, West Hartford, had asked for the extension, according to the town.

It is seeking a special use permit for the project, which includes a new multi-sport synthetic turf field and associated site improvements.

The first application was filed Sept. 7, with a hearing and possible decision originallys lated for Oct. 3, a date that is now pushed back to Nov. 2.

Like the current grass field, the new artificial turf field would serve the school's football, soccer, lacrosse and baseball teams.

The hope is for construction to begin shortly after approval is granted, if its granted.
