Car Burglary Suspect Caught Overnight In West Hartford: Police

An alert resident notified police of a man attempting to enter her vehicle. The suspect was wanted on a warrant for burglary and larceny.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — An alert resident helped police locate a suspected car burglar during the overnight hours Tuesday in West Hartford. Officers were dispatched to the area of Vine Hill Road at about 4:30 a.m. after a resident witnessed a man with a backpack attempting to gain entry into her vehicle, according to police.

Arriving officers saw a flashlight and heard someone moving through the brush between Vine Hill Road and Brightwood Lane, police said. (To sign up for West Hartford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

While a perimeter was established and a K-9 unit summoned, police received another call that described a similar individual in the yard of 200 Webster Hill Boulevard.

Officers located the suspect walking in the area of Greystone Road and Overbrook Road. Police said the suspect was found to have an active warrant for burglary/larceny and was in possession of items reported stolen during the initial complaint on Vine Hill Road.

Alexander Diaz, 22, of Hartford, was arrested on the warrant and charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on a court-set $25,000 bond. Police said additional burglary and larceny charges for the most recent case are pending.
